Stump Pecking

In the More Digging post, I wrote about using dead trees, and dead tree parts, to attract woodpeckers.

It seems to be working.

This Downy Woodpecker is checking out one of the stumps I planted.

And then a Hairy Woodpecker was checking out the base of the fallen tree*.

It was even doing a bit of ground-pecking.

I love it when a plan comes together.

* The second part of the plan it to raise the base of the tree. For that I'll need help. Perhaps an old fashioned tree raising. I'll provide the beer and pizza. You provide the extra muscle. What do ya think?
