Drama at the Suet Feeder

We have enjoyed six species* of woodpecker in our yard, four of which visit our suet feeders.

Like these two (ignore the Mourning Dove on the sunflower feeder).

That is a Red-bellied Woodpecker, with the orange cap, eating the suet.

And a underneath is a Northern Flicker, eyeing the suet and then trying to look nonchalant. And being eyed in turn by the Red-bellied.

Which is making it clear it is not sharing.

Very clear.

The Flicker is not deterred.

And calmly waits its turn.

Attempting to sneak some suet from around the side.

* The six, in order of how often they visit our yard, are:

- Red-bellied Woodpecker

- Downy Woodpecker

- Hairy Woodpecker

- Northern Flicker

- Pileated Woodpecker

- Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

The first four visit our suet feeders. The Pileated does eat suet, just not our suet.
