Wasp Nests

Spring. An apt description of life as it 'springs' into action. I've posted about the birds migrating to and through the yard. The reason they migrate is because of the insects. Although they prefer caterpillars to the critters discussed in this post.

Here we have a paper wasp nest, note the eggs in the cells.

The species is perhaps Polistes metricus, although without seeing the head impossible to really tell. They are a species found in this area, and are a wasp with no yellow on the body. These critters seem to really like homesteading above our doors. We have nests like this on all of our buildings (house, garage, hermitage).

And then there is this:

Another paper nest, although I've not seen the critter responsible for this one. Nest construction is ongoing. The above shot is from June 2nd. The one below from June 16th.

And this one from July 13th.

It hasn't changed since then.

And I still haven't seen any critter on or even around this nest.

I welcome suggestions on what species makes this nest.
