Tiger Bee Fly

The Tiger Bee Fly, Xenox tigrinus,  ...

... Is not a Tiger.
... Is not a Bee.
... Is a Fly.

And that is ok with me.

The eyes are what gives it away. Typical fly eyes.

This critter parasitizes Carpenter Bees. And I don't like Carpenter Bees. And thus the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The female Tiger Bee Fly invades a Carpenter Bee Nest and lays its eggs next to the Bee's eggs. When the Fly eggs hatch they start eating the Bee larva. Or rather, they drink them, injecting them with chemicals which liquify the Bee larva innards.

Maybe they should be called the Vampire Bee Fly?
