Yard Critter - Polyphemus Moth Caterpillar

Antheraea polyphemus.


Another caterpillar found out by our back pond.


Munching away on a River Birch. That's what caterpillars do. They are eating machines.


And this species is one such that it needs to eat as much as it can. As it is one of the giant silk moths; moths that do not have mouth parts. Living only as long as the food reserves the caterpillar provides last.
