Weekend Wanderings ... Franklin Parker Preserve

After visiting the Micheal Huber Prairie Warbler Preserve, and a stop for lunch at a local diner, we headed to another of the NJ Conservation Foundation's properties ...

... the Franklin Parker Preserve.

Where Uncle Rusty led us on a botany walk, which in addition to bing a DVOC and NJCF outing, was also a field trip for a Temple college class.

We saw flowers, like this Blue Toadflax.

And moss, (leave your species guess in the comments).

Recent controlled burns opened up the understory.

We saw lots of interesting stuff. Like these old railroad tracks.

Some type of insect gall, but we could not determine the species.

We don't know what was going on with these ants, but is was cool to see.

A very nice day spent outdoors with friends. You can't ask for much more than that.

As noted in this post, Michael Huber and Franklin Parker are linked by family ties.
