Or perhaps "pondmate".
This Northern Water Snake, perhaps one of these three, has taken up residence in the filter box of the fish pond.
And we know what that means ...
But this snake seems much smaller than the fish in the pond. Of course, there are frogs and tadpoles in there as well. And the fish are making more fish, which start out small.
I first spotted this one when I went to clean out the filters this past Monday. It was very skittish then. And again when I walked by when it was sunning itself on the rocks. Zipping straightaway in to the pond. But this time it held the pose for quite some time. Allowing me to walk around and get the last shot. I doubt it knows how much I appreciate the cooperation.
