The Prepared Mind

Our gardens are starting to grow and April showers are paying off in flowers. And one of the flowers currently blooming are Pussytoes, Antennaria plantaginifolia, a native sound cover. One native plant source describes them as , good for "dry areas such as rock gardens". And they have spread quite nicely among the rocks around our fish pond waterfall.

And as we were relaxing on the deck after a day workin gin the yard, Patty noted that she hadn't seen any caterpillars on the Pussytoes, which are the host plant for the American Lady Butterfly caterpillars.

It was with that in mind, while listening for an Easter Towhee (I did not hear it), I noticed a butterfly visiting another population of Pussytoes out in Barb's Garden.

Sure enough, it was an American Lady. And there are eggs on the Pussytoe leaves.

And soon there will be those caterpillars Patty was pining for.
