Walking ...

On only five legs.


I spotted this Northern Walkingstick, Diapheromera femorata, when it walked across my foot as I was taking pictures of the American Carrion Beetle larvae and Partridge Pea flowers.


I first thought that the yellow spot by its head was a mite of some type. But upon further review it turned out to be where the right front leg had been attached.


But this critter did not seem to have any issue walking across the driveway, and off into the woods. Disappearing as just another twig.
