It is not pepper. but when in full bloom a sweet smell fills the air.
And we have quite a bit of it along the edges of our yard.
A native Pinelands plant, common throughout the region.
I don't know if the previous owner, who enjoyed gardening, planted this shrub or if it was already here.
No matter, it's here, and brightens and adds a pleasant fragrance the yard.
