This year found us wandering the trails at the Michael Huber Prairie Warbler Preserve, my second visit to a preserve less than 3.5 miles away as the prairie warbler flies.
Typical NJ Pinelands habitat, which was overcast and colder then expected. Or at least I expected.
Still, a good sized group enjoyed the trek, seen here waiting at the halfway point for stragglers. That's our fearless leader Mark peaking in through the left side of the image.
And here he is on the other side of the gate.
On this day we did not venture into the cedars, exploring the dark tunnel will have to wait for another day.
We took the blue trail. Which was much shorter than I had remembered, although that first time was a birding trip, and we spent quite a bit of time standing and watching the eponymous warblers, among other species.
Last time it was the crazy tree chair. This time a rusted barrel up in a tree. Perhaps once part of a feed lure for deer.
And just like that we were back at the cars, ready to head off to the post hike gathering and option second blue trail walk.
To be continued ...
