I mentioned in the first NJ Pinelands Winter Bird Census post that we had twenty species of birds before we left the living room.
For a while I wondered if we were going to get any.
The feeders were stocked. The sun was up. And the garden was completely free of birds.
Zip. Nada. None.
On a typical winter morning the yard is full of movement, birds barely visible in the early morning twilight. But on this morning empty. Just an Eastern Gray Squirrel on the fence.
I've noted before the dearth of birds this winter. By now the birds, at least the ones that were gonna come down this winter, had started to arrive. I guess, like the dogs, they all just decided to sleep in.
