Iridescent Clouds over the Painted Desert National Park in Arizona. I visited Arizona this past April, on a business trip to Phoenix. Two colleagues and I flew out early and visited Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley, along with a brief visit to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Park. More pictures from that trip to come.

This is fabulous, what an incredible sky! Did you do any PP on it? Or is this as it was?

Hi Linda,

Yep that is how the sky looked, although it was hard to photograph. The glare from the sun can completely wipe out any color.

So I did need to do some post processing to pull the colors out, as the raw image data was kinda washed out.

Iridescent clouds aren't all that rare, but since they are usually close to the sun, people either done look or the glare overwhelms any colors. Hiding the sun behind a building or telephone pole or friend's head helps.

Another fabulous sky!

I'm beginning to imagine you walking through life with your chin up, constantly scanning the sky! ;-)

Yeah pretty much. I'm always looking up. In addition to photography my hobbies include astronomy.

And looking back. My brother taught me this one. Whenever I'm out hiking I always make sure to turn around and check out the view behind me.
