RNC Moth Night

This year's Moth Night at the Rancocas Nature Center was well attended.

By people, not by moths. Note the empty sheet, devoid of critters.

The hit of the evening was this insect. A European Hornet, of which there were at least three. All of which seemed to be very attracted to my shirt.

As you no doubt gathered from the name, this is a non-native species. Introduced to the US in the 1800s. These critters are carnivores and prey on large insects including beetles, wasps, large moths, and even dragonflies.

Perhaps this explains the lack of insects on the sheet?
