Dad has had his hip surgery, with two rods installed in his left leg, and has now partially recovered. He is no longer bed ridden and is at an inpatient rehab center, undergoing physical therapy. He can get up and walk, albeit for short distances and in pain. But the staff say he is making good progress. And he is in much better spirits.
Here he is doing one of his favorite things, talking.
It helps that he is at a rehab center where he was a volunteer for many years. Knowing your care givers is a great comfort.
I'm fortunate that my job allows me to work remotely, and thus I've been able to spend some quality time with Mom, seen here enjoying shrimp for lunch at her favorite restaurant. Having my sister or me there with them helps both mom and dad feel better about the situation.

There is still a ways to go before this ordeal is over. Dad thinks he'll be at the rehab center through the end of the month. And we're sure he'll need help once he gets home (my sister Amalie plans to be here then). But he looks and feels a whole lot better than he did a week ago. And we're all happy about that.

And just for fun here's a picture of a Eastern Grey Squirrel hiding under the aptly named squirrel baffle on a bird feeder in our yard.
Mom hates squirrels.
