Red Flat Bark Beetle

Looks more orange than red to me.

This critter was found under the bark of the Willow Tree that fell on Christmas Eve.

A  Red Flat Bark Beetle larva. 

You would think I would have noticed such a bright read beetle, but apparently it spends it's life under the bark. And if it weren't for the tree fall I wouldn't even know to be on the look out for it.

But now I am. And perhaps images of the adult will appear here in the not too distant future.
