Yard Critter of the Week - Hermit Thrush

Hermit Thrush

An annual winter visitor to our yard.

An insect eater in the spring, they are berry eaters in the winter. And this one was on the Beauty Berry bush right outside our kitchen window.

This bird is lucky to find some berries as the squirrels have been busy munching away on these.

This is the 110th bird species I've recorded in the yard this year, surpassing my previous yearly high by twelve. And it is the 23rd bird species to be a Yard Critter of the Week. Eighty-seven more yard critter candidates, fifteen more then the seventy-two total yard critter posts so far. That's a pretty good flock of birds.

That ugly yellow line through the images is an extension cord to a heated bird bath. Adding such a water feature to your yard can help attract birds throughout the winter. And is good for the birds too (the bird bath in the first image of the linked site is the model we have).
