Comet 46P Wirtanen

There is a relatively bright comet, Comet 46P Wirtanen, visible this month. It is technically a naked eye object, and I was able to glimpse it with averted vision Wednesday evening, but for most observers some type of optical aid will be required. This comet will make it's closest approach to Earth on December 16th, when it will be next to the Pleiades star cluster, making for a very nice photo op.

The forecast is for rain here.

Bummer.

Never the less, I went out Thursday evening to shot the comet and test out my set up, just in case the forecast is wrong.

Not that that ever happens.

And I was able to get a few good shots, including this one.

And then the clouds rolled in (the comet is barely visible in the image below).

And that could be it for week or so.

Damn clouds.
