... or is it battle?
Perhaps a bit of both.
Our first snow of the season brought accumulations of between three and four inches. Yet one day later and it's already gone! But for that one day the snow did cover the local farms fields, and the Common Grackles needed an alternate source of food.
And they choose our feeders.
Here are some shots as the birds battled over the triple stump, which I had stocked with seed earlier in the day, in anticipation of the snow but not the grackles.

I love the one bird on the right that just seems to be watching.
Not the first confrontation over this stump. And probably not the last.
