North America's largest chipmunk, 'Chippy' as we like to call 'em, is a common site this time of year, stuffing its cheeks as it stocks up food for winter.
As they don't hibernate they need to ensure an adequate food supply, thus every morning they are in our side garden, hoovering up bird seed.
Fun fact, the eastern United States has one chipmunk species, that which is the subject of this post. Out west there are twenty-seven different chipmunks, plus six striped ground squirrels. We don't have any stripy ground squirrels here out east.
If you ask me, that's just not fair.
