Scorpionfly

Sounds scary doesn't it, Scorpionfly, combining the worst of flies and scorpions. 

Ok, maybe not so much. How can you be scared with a snout like that?

Scorpionflies, like this Panorpa isolata, are harmless, to humans anyway. This is a female, as the males have genitals which resemble a scorpion's stinger. Thus the name.

This critter hung around just long enough for me to snap a few pictures and then flew off.
