More Mammals

There are more members of the Class Mammalia than just Rats visiting the Back Bubbler. They include:

Eastern Cottontail, a now common critter in our yard, this was not the case when we first moved in. Our move away from lawn to habitat is the likely reason.

Another too common visitor is this Domestic Cat. Visiting day ...

... and night. We've tried to lure it in but it is quite wary of us. We worry it will not be happy outside all winter. A fear for the critters it may be hunting.

Eastern Chipmunks have been very active of late. I often see them from my desk as I work from home these days. Building up their winter food stores.

Northern Raccoons continue to visit the Back Bubbler, but the other night when we put peanut butter out for the Flying Squirrels it went uneaten. Usually Raccoons and Virginia Opossums gobble down whatever the Squirrels don't. But lately the peanut butter lasts the night, these critters largely absent from the feeder garden area. Perhaps as the temperatures drop they'll return?

Eastern Gray Squirrels are seemingly everywhere in the yard. And they happily enjoy any peanut butter that survives the night.

The two Bubbler Bird Baths we installed this year have been quite the hit with the local critters. But we've found it difficult to keep them clean. We've resorted to bailing out and replacing the water, a non-optimal solution. For the Back Bubbler we're thinking of installing a large shallow pan. One we could lift out and clean. We're not sure what we'll do with the front Bubbler.

But of course whatever we do, I'll write about it.
