Weekend Wanderings (Part 2) ... The Road to Martha

In the prior post I noted we were on an excursion to visit both Harrisville and Martha Furnace.

So we headed down the road from Harrisville to Martha. Soon enough we realized the plan was overly ambitious. And we did not make it all the way to Martha.

But we still enjoyed the walk.

The road is through typical Pinelands forest. Yet James reminded us that at the time Harrisville and Martha where thriving communities there would be no trees. They would have been turned into a buildings or charcoal for the iron industry.

The excursion started at 3:30 pm, with the goal to be somewhere interesting for sunset. Now, if we were still in the treeless era, that would have been easy. But not so much these days.

So we looked for the light where we could find it.

By the time we got back to our cars the sun had set.

But there are more roads to head down. And more weekends to wander them.
