April Flowers ...

... bring May seeds.

Not very poetic. But the flowers are blooming.

This past Monday Patty had off, so we, along with our friend Barb, visited Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve in central Pennsylvania.

Our friend Jenn was planing to join us, but was unable to. It seems the southern entrance was closed because of issues with the access road, a dirt road, and that's where her GPS unit guided her. And making matters worse, her phone ran out of power and her charger was not working. Not a good morning. Hopefully she'll be able to join us on future visits.

Here for your viewing pleasure are the flowers currently blooming at the Preserve. Enjoy!

Virginia Bluebells

Virginia Bluebells were everywhere along the trail

Pink Virginia Bluebells

Phlox

Phlox

The very informative sign at the start of the trail said Wild Blue Phlox was in bloom. Neither of these seem all that blueish to me.

I've not been able to determine the species of the next three. Feel free to leave your ID in the comments.

Spring Beauty

Sweet White Violet

I think these next two are both variations of Common Blue Violet.

But I could be mistaken about one or both. Pretty sure about the "violet" part though.

Yellow Violet

Trillium

Trillium, Red Variety

There were a number of little white flowers. The ID's are based mainly on the plant list provided here (note that numbers on the images are not always correct!). Feel free to let me know if I got it wrong in the comments.

Anseroot

Early Saxifrage

Bishop's Cap

Dutchman's Breeches

Squirrel-Corn (with Spring Beauty)

Wild Geranium

Wild Geranium

Showy Orchid (not quite blooming)

Trout Lily (a bit past prime)

Jack-in-the-Pulpit

Golden Ragwort

A very nice preserve, well worth multiple visits throughout the spring as different flowers come into bloom, even as it is a two hour drive for us, which curiously takes us through Delaware and Maryland and then back up into Pennsylvania. A no brainer for anyone living in the area.
