My friend Laura has a wonderful blog entitled Somewhere in NJ. Recently though you could call it "Somewhere in Wisconsin". Seems she went on a trip there (and blew off a trip with me to the Pinelands here in NJ. The nerve!). And she's been blogging about all the fabulous flowers she saw there.

Well they don't call it the "Garden State" for nothing. Here are some flower images from right here in New Jersey. Taken in the Pine Barrens this past Saturday morning. All at one spot. And all before noon.

Yellow Fringed Orchid

Bog Aster

Turks-cap Lily

Slender Yellow-eyed Grass

Round-leaved Sundew

Cross-leaved Milkwort

Lance-leaved Century

Green Wood Orchid

Canada St. Johns-wort

White Fringed Orchid

Imagine if I had spent the whole day out there?

:-)

Every single one of these is beautiful and magnificent in it's own way!

There aren't enough adjectives to describe these stunningly beautiful flowers. You did a wonderful job.

I didn't blow you off Steve!

(pfft!)

It's just.... um... Kirtland's and those Hine's Emerald dragonflies and those darn prairie orchids... I couldn't resist!

;-)

I'm very jealous of your finds, if that's any consolation. I obviously don't spend enough time in the Pine Barrens at this time of year or know the best spots.

Invite me again, maybe?

(thanks for the link, btw)

These fringed orchids... wow!

(had to come back to say that.)

Any leads on spreading pogonia? I would die to see that one...

@ Chesney and Iona. Thanks, I'm glad you like them.

@ Laura, I'll go wandering in the woods with you anytime. :-) But I think it's to late for spreading pogonia (which I've never seen and would love to).

Beautiful flowers, the Turks Cap Lily is my favourite.

Well you could have stayed all day with a couple of extra batteries and some 8G cards. Your colors are amazing in all of these. I think you have conveyed in yours what I always try so hard to do. That is not only how beautiful flowers really are, but there is just a sense of real awe in the colors, variety, textures and more. Fantastic job. I think I said once you have given me better appreciation for NJ, I have only seen the city side of it and family member's homes. LOL

Meant to ask too, do you edit in RAW? I have started working with it and love it. Now I feel like what good are those JPGs.

@ top5cats: I shoot almost exclusively RAW. I'm not good enough to shoot JPEG. And thank you very much for the kind words.

@ witchyborder: Thank you. There are a couple of little things I wish I could change. But it is one of my favorites too.

Wow! Those wildflowers are exquisite, each and every one. Shows what can be discovered close to home if one takes the time to look!

I learn so much from your blog! Plus your photos are wonderful, of course.

I did always wonder how NJ got that nickname, now about that barren part..
Eyeopening shots all.
