365 Theme 307: Stuck

Another carnivorous plant native to the New Jersey Pine Barrens, the thread leaved sundew, Drosera filiformis, which has trapped the Pines Barrens bluet, a damsel fly in distress. Sundews have drops of sticky fluid on there 'hairs' which attract and ensnare insects. As the insects struggle they come into contact with more and more of the sticky drops. And once the plant detects enough of the hairs being touched it will begin to curl around the trapped bug and slowly digest it.

You have a lot of hungry plants in your area - I would think the bugs would learn not to play with them! :) Love the contrast between the plant and the blue bug!

A little on the gruesome side, but such is life in the animal and plant kingdom.

Survival of the fittest, and all that rot. The Creator designed the plant to get its food this way, so who are we to remark on it when it does? Nice shot. Keen eye.

Great shot, I like how you can just see the drops of fluid. The complimentary colors turned out great too. The whole scene seems so fragile and delicate. Sad turn of events for him, but it compares well to our own society, as "we all have to eat". LOL
