Yosemite Valley (April 2003).

Most of the photo challenges I'm aware of are focused (pun!) on getting one to make new images. Challenges like Helen's Sunday Six, Julie's 365 Photos in 2009, and Chad Darnell's 12 of 12 are all about getting you out taking photos.

My In With The Old challenge is different. My goal is to go through the backlog of my images and pick one photo of the week to post here. The rules are simple:

- Once a week post a photo taken prior to 2009.

That's it.

In 2006 I purchased a copy of Peter Krogh's The DAM Book and since then my images are organized, accessible, and backed up. But I've plenty of photos scattered about my hard drives pre-DAM (Digital Asset Management). So my reason for this exercise is twofold. To go back through my images and get them organized. And to see your greatest hits.

I hope you enjoy my oldies. And I look forward to seeing yours. If you decide to play along, leave a link to your blog in the comments below and I'll add your blog to my sidebar.

Have fun.

Hi again

Glad to see you are still with us. I was interested in that DAM book (hey, that's funny!!) - would you recommend it?

This is one great photo - I think the best one of yours to date - IMHO.

Steve, this is a WOW photo! So, it sounds like you aren't going to be with us on the 365 after all but I'll keep checking on your blog as I can...

Have a great 2009!

Thank you all.

@ Linda, yes I strongly recommend The DAM Book.

@ Julie, yes I'll be doing the 365 Challenge and maybe Helen's Sunday Six as well.

Now as to this image. It was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 880, a 3.3 megapixel camera. I used that camera because it was sleeting and I didn't want to risk my "real" camera, a Minolta Maxxum 5 film SLR. And we were only at the tunnel overlook viewpoint because there was a rockslide and we couldn't get to our hotel. So we were forced to sight see instead. We wouldn't get to our hotel until the next day and had fun finding a room for the night (a story for another time).

This trip was the one that made me go 100% digital. When I got home I found that I had shot 5 to 1 digital to film, and had much more fun experimenting, not worrying about "wasting" film and loving the instant feedback.

Very cool idea, and absolutely stunning image!

Absolutely amazing, Steve! This proves that it's not the camera but the photographer that takes such stunning images.

See you at work, big guy! ;)

I might join you in this! I have so many old photos to go through. Sometimes I have posted old ones, but I've titled them as "Archive: XXX". If you don't mind a different title, and not necessarily posting each week, I'll do this!

Hi there! I'm going to participate too! I'll link to you on my site once I get a chance to do so and to post my first picture.

I don't think I'll be doing 365 -- I did 366 and got 364 of the themes though! But I'm doing Sunday Six also.

Nice to meet ya!

@ Tammy and Cassie: Thanks.

@ Helen: Ah, what's in a name? Use any title you like. :-)

@ Allison: Cool. And nice to meet you too.

I'm totally confused! I had you on my bloglist with this web address:

I guess you changed it!
Anyway, I LOVE this photo! The blues and the grays and the processing. It's gorgeous!

I would like to join the oldie challenge. I am scanning in 30 years of negatives, so I think I may have enough for 52 weeks.

Great challenge idea, and I especially appreciate the resource suggestion. I definitely need a system. :)
