The darkest step should be made as dark as possible while you are also able to distinguish it from the next lighter step.

Mike He is a Peacock! He is on a Hen Hunt! He isn't celebrating New years he is looking for a girl! Just like you do when you put on your Sunday Go-to-Meeting Duds and your Missus grabs you by the ear before you can get out the door. Great Shot though!
No doubt that's true, as all the lady birds were down the road and he was late to the party!
