Every Despot Needs a Villain

Recently on CNN's State of the Union program host Jake Tapper asked:

"At the national level, who deserves a punch in the face?" Without missing a beat, Chris Christie answered, "Oh the national teachers union ..."

And Christie, attempting to deflect scrutiny from his dismal, scandal ridden performance as New Jersey governor, and curry favor with conservative voters, has chosen to vilify teachers.

As Isaac Asimov noted, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

And Chris Christie has revealed himself as the thug he is.

Scenes from Skimmer Nation

A few (ok a bunch) of images from my visit to the Malibu Beach Wildlife Management Area.

Enjoy!

I'm starting to notice a theme here ...

Yes they are noisy.

"Feed Me!"

"No, Feed Me!"

Only one bird had a band (bird bling must be expensive).

That flying stuff looks fun ...

... I can't wait until these things work!

There's a big world out there ...

... explore!

This sun it hot!

That's better.

Not fooling me.

Baby Turkeys

The other morning while out feeding the fish something large flew by, toward the back of the yard. "What was that?" I thought. Although I spotted the bird running away after landing, I was still confused as to what it might be. The size was all wrong.

But after the initial confusion (perhaps aided by the fact I'd not yet had any coffee?) I was able to ID it as a baby turkey (It helped that I spotted mom). Then another flew out of the garden landing next to, but then running past, mom. Not yet a graceful lander. And they then vanished off into the back woods.

I went out the next morning, this time with camera, but the only garden visitor was a bunny.

Today I spotted these five, two adults and three young, outside the kitchen window. I quick grabbed the camera and got em.

I Hate When That Happens

Time for a trip to the dry cleaners.

Attack Mode

That Tern on the Half Shell wasn't being cooperative, posing for photographers. No.

That bird did not like me being there.

It would land on the beach directly in front of me. And watch me for a minute or so.

Then it would start screaming and fly straight at me.

It would fly over head making this machine gun like sound as it zoomed by.

It would circle back and the the cycle would begin anew.

Like Father, Like Son

Either that or ...

... junior is just sleepy.
